Strengthening relations with the diaspora remains one of the main priorities for the Georgian government, - Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili, told the media after meeting with representatives of the Georgian diaspora during her visit to San Francisco.

According to Bochorishvili, deepening ties with compatriots living abroad is one of the most important directions for the state.

As Maka Bochorishvili noted, within the framework of Diaspora Day, new projects were presented to diaspora representatives, which will be focused on strengthening Georgian identity, language and cultural ties.

“Relations with the diaspora are one of the priorities for our government. Recently, we celebrated Diaspora Day and presented new projects. We have proposed new projects to our diaspora representatives, which will mainly focus on strengthening the teaching of the Georgian language, strengthening the diaspora’s relations with its homeland, and, of course, on the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the diaspora, which plays a truly special role for our diaspora representatives, because it is very often a link with our homeland, our Georgian culture and spirituality. Of course, this will be given great importance in our programs and projects,” said Maka Bochorishvili.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of direct communication and regular meetings with representatives of the diaspora. According to her, the state’s goal is to maximally contribute to maintaining and strengthening the ties of Georgians living abroad with their homeland.

"Of course, it is important to meet and communicate with representatives of the diaspora when we have the opportunity, in order to ensure their connection with the homeland, to facilitate this as much as possible and for our diaspora representatives to be as connected to the homeland as possible," Maka Bochorishvili noted.

According to the ministry, the Vice Prime Minister emphasized that new projects and initiatives planned in the direction of the diaspora are an integral part of state policy and serve to preserve the national, cultural and spiritual identity of compatriots living outside Georgia.
