Plea agreements are being concluded with six more defendants in connection with the events of October 4.
As became clear during the court hearing, out of 14 defendants in this episode, plea agreements are currently being signed with the following individuals: Giorgi Korkia, Giorgi Rurua, Khvicha Gogokhia, Levan Jikia, Lasha Ivanadze, and Sergo Megrelishvili.
The basis for the plea agreements is the defendants’ admission of guilt and the recognition of evidence as undisputed.
Plea agreements are not being signed with the following individuals, who did not admit guilt: Zurab Tchatchvanidze, Vladimir Gevelesian, Amiran Dolishvili, Anton Vardanidze, Aleksandre Chilachava, Genadi Kupreishvili, Sulkhan Tughushi, and Ramaz Mamuladze.
As for those who admitted guilt, their cases have been separated into a distinct proceeding. Once the court approves the plea agreements reached between the parties, the defendants will be released from the courtroom. The process may take place as early as tomorrow.
The prosecution is offering them plea agreements involving a three-year suspended sentence.
In total, 64 individuals have been charged in connection with the October 4 events. At this stage, plea agreements are being concluded with 21 of them.
For context, in relation to the October 4 events, all defendants in this episode were charged under Article 19-222(a) of the Criminal Code of Georgia (attempted seizure of a strategically and specially important facility, committed by a group) and Article 225(2) (participation in group violence), which carry a penalty of up to six years of imprisonment.
