Abkhazia is considering starting flights to foreign countries from Sokhumi International Airport, - the so-called President of occupied Abkhazia Badra Gunba said in an interview with Russian media.
According to him, currently flights from Sokhumi Airport are only operated to Russian cities, which is a priority. However, they do not rule out the possibility of starting international flights "as soon as favorable geopolitical conditions are created".
“Of course, we are really focused on this work,” Gunba said when asked whether Sokhumi Airport plans to operate flights to foreign countries.
According to him, “Georgia is preventing the start of flights to foreign countries.”
“Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to operate flights to countries other than Russia, because Georgia is blocking them through the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization),” Gunba noted, expressing hope that the issue will be resolved quickly.
