According to lawyer Tamta Mikeladze, director of the Social Justice Center, the detention of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Sadigov has been officially confirmed.

As she writes on social media, "Azerbaijan and Georgia acted with malicious intent, contrary to their conventional obligations, and this will certainly become the basis for the most severe decision of the European Court."

“The detention of Afgan Sadigov has been officially confirmed. The investigation and prosecution of the same case, on the basis of which Azerbaijan requested his extradition to Baku, which was clearly fabricated and contained signs of political persecution of the journalist, were resumed, allegedly based on the victim’s appeal to the court.

Let me remind you that in early April, the official position of Azerbaijan was that the investigation and prosecution against the journalist had been terminated, and, accordingly, the extradition request was also suspended, since there was no longer any legal basis for it. Now, 65 days after his deportation to Azerbaijan, he was arrested in the same case, on the same grounds. This shows very well that this process was a pre-planned, coordinated and fabricated special operation, in which the Georgian Dream regime also openly participated.

Azerbaijan did not even want to wait for the Strasbourg court’s decision and within two months arrested the journalist in the same case, on the same grounds.
