According to Gegelia, a similar entry to the new act adopted by the House of Representatives was made in the National Defense Authorization Act, through which legislators practically directly instruct the US executive branch, the White House, the Pentagon and other institutions to take special control of the situation in Georgia.

The act, supported by an absolute majority in the House of Representatives, instructs the US State Department, intelligence and defense agencies to submit a secret report on the penetration and possible cooperation of Russian and Chinese intelligence services in Georgia. The regime’s propaganda claimed that they could normalize with America, but today we see that this regime is perceived by the US as a source of security risks. Most importantly, the act was supported by an absolute majority of representatives from both parties.

The harsh assessment of the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee that “the selection of a Chinese consortium for the [Anaklia] large-scale deep-sea port development project…” carries threats and risks to Georgian and American national interests was significant. This is one of the highest-level statements regarding Anaklia and the Middle Corridor.
