A total of 119 people have been arrested on drug-related charges as a result of police operations conducted in Tbilisi and across Georgia over the past 48 hours, including 49 individuals accused of drug trafficking, Vazha Siradze announced at a briefing today.

According to Siradze, those detained include both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals.

“During searches of the detainees, their vehicles, and residences, as well as at locations identified by them, law enforcement officers seized particularly large quantities of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as evidence. These included heroin, cocaine, alpha-PVP, methadone, mephedrone, buprenorphine, and other substances.

As part of preventive police measures and investigative activities, officers also seized materials used for packaging narcotics, money allegedly obtained from drug sales, as well as a large number of firearms and ammunition.

Based on court orders, law enforcement officers conducted multiple controlled drug purchases from individuals accused of illegal drug distribution and made covert audio and video recordings of those transactions. Evidence obtained during the investigation indicates that the detained drug dealers were systematically selling narcotics to citizens in exchange for money.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260³, 260⁴, 265, and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties ranging up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
