“Deepening our cooperation with the countries of Central Asia is of particular importance. Based on these processes, Georgia will make much greater progress in utilizing its economic potential,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in Tajikistan.
According to Kobakhidze, Georgia connects seven countries to the Black Sea and, consequently, to the Western economic space, making the full utilization of this potential especially important from a trade and economic perspective.
“In this regard, deepening our cooperation with Tajikistan is also important. As you know, we recently paid a visit to Kyrgyzstan, we will soon visit Kazakhstan, and in July the presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will visit Georgia. Accordingly, we have very positive momentum in our relations, and all of this will contribute to the development of our transit function.
As you know, significant investments are being made in connectivity and strengthening our transit role. At the same time, great importance is attached to developing relations with neighboring countries. We enjoy excellent relations with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, while also actively expanding ties with the countries of Central Asia.
Through these processes, Georgia will move much further forward in realizing its economic potential. This is one of our highest priorities,” Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister also noted that 11 different agreements were signed during the visit to Tajikistan, aimed at deepening cooperation in various areas.
“Our visit to the Republic of Tajikistan is coming to an end. This is the first high-level visit from Georgia to Tajikistan in the entire history of relations between the two countries, which gives this visit special significance.
Throughout our shared history, only three agreements had previously been signed between the two countries. Yesterday, we signed 11 different agreements that provide for deeper cooperation in various fields.
It is important for us to maintain strong political cooperation with the Republic of Tajikistan, and there is also potential to develop our economic and trade cooperation, as well as cooperation in education and culture. The agreements we signed address all of these areas.
We had very productive meetings with the President of Tajikistan, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of Parliament. I would like to thank the President and all of our colleagues for their warm hospitality,” Kobakhidze said.
