“Fourteen years into Georgian Dream’s rule, ‘Gavrilov is everywhere.’ Gavrilov’s Night has continued as Gavrilov’s days, months, and years. The ‘Long Night of Gavrilov’ must come to an end,” wrote Pikria Chikhradze, a member of “Lelo - Strong Georgia.”
The opposition politician recalled the events of June 19-20, 2019, when Russian State Duma deputy Sergey Gavrilov took the chair of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, triggering widespread protests in Georgia.
“June 20 - seven years have passed since ‘Gavrilov’s Night.’ Back then, Russian MP Gavrilov sat in the main chair of Parliament. Today, after 14 years of Georgian Dream’s rule, ‘Gavrilov is everywhere.’ Gavrilov’s Night has continued into Gavrilov’s days, months, and years.
Young men and women fighting for Georgia’s European future have become prisoners of conscience. Elene Khoshtaria is in prison and faces serious health problems.
Virtually every political leader is still facing the prospect of imprisonment. Those who avoid prison will have their freedom restricted outside of it through distorted laws.
‘Gavrilovshchina’ and the ‘Long Night of Gavrilov’ must come to an end,” Chikhradze wrote on Facebook.
