Grigol Gegelia said that statements by American analyst James Jay Carafano confirm that the United States is speaking about specific economic and political conditions in the context of resetting relations with Georgia.

According to Gegelia, Washington’s main interests are linked to the Anaklia deep-sea port and the Middle Corridor project, while another key priority is political stability in the country.

He also said the U.S. is closely observing domestic developments in Georgia and will not ignore political repression or the state of democratic institutions.

“The message from the United States is completely clear. There is a price for resetting relations: economy and security - meaning Anaklia and political stability. These statements once again confirm what we have been saying for a long time: the U.S. is interested in pragmatic bilateral relations with Georgia, but the ‘Georgian Dream’ is trying to negotiate at a ‘Georgian Dream price’. It cannot succeed, because Ivanishvili is a less skilled businessman and politician than Donald Trump,” he said.

Gegelia added that the U.S. expects a concrete proposal from Georgia, centered on the Anaklia deep-sea port.

At the same time, he stressed that the U.S. will not ignore political repression, democratic backsliding, or the situation in which, in his words, the ruling party has placed Georgian society.

He concluded that boycott is not the right path forward and that mobilization and political struggle are the only viable options, which he claimed are supported by the United States.
