According to available information, Giorgi Malania, the son of a former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, has been detained in connection with the Giga Avaliani case.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed to InterpressNews that one person has been detained in connection with Avaliani's murder.

According to the ministry's press service, the arrest was made under Article 376 of Georgia's Criminal Code, which concerns failure to report a crime.

Earlier, TV Pirveli reported that Giorgi Malania had been arrested in Lanchkhuti on the basis of a court warrant.

Giga Avaliani's mother, Eka Kupatadze, claimed that "Giorgi Malania is the most dangerous person in Georgia."

"If it weren't for Giorgi Malania, Giga Avaliani might still be alive today.
