The National Bureau of Forensic Expertise named after Levan Samkharadze explained to the defenders of opposition politician Aleko Elisashvili that the expertise requested by them at the bureau cannot be conducted.
Specifically, the case concerns the request of Elisashvili’s lawyers in the case of an attempt to commit a terrorist act to conduct an examination to answer the following question: would pouring gasoline on the Citizens Service Center and its inventory located in the court yard, as well as on the entire court building and its inventory, as shown in the video footage, cause 100% burning of the object.
The Samkharadze Forensic Bureau explained that the questions posed by the defenders are based on a hypothetical scenario of the development of events, and since there is no fact of fire ignition and no research material obtained as a result of the burning of the object, the requested examination cannot be conducted at the bureau.
“Mr. Archil [Chopikashvili], regarding the expertise appointed by your request of February 25, 2026 (ref. No. 1001594826) to the National Bureau of Forensic Expertise named after Levan Samkharadze, we inform you that the main issues of fire expertise research at the bureau are: determining the source of the fire; the causes of fire ignition and development, as well as the relevant samples taken from the scene and seized items of evidence.
As for the questions posed, which, as it turns out in this specific case, are based on a hypothetical scenario of the development of events — since there is no fact of fire ignition and no research material obtained as a result of the burning of the object, they represent certain theoretical issues whose solution is impossible on the basis of existing practice and methodology, which is why the expertise appointed by your request of February 25, 2026 (ref. No. 1001594826) cannot be conducted at the bureau,” the response letter from the Samkharadze Forensic Bureau states.
