The price increase crisis continues in Georgia. Irakli Kobakhidze failed to reduce prices on a single product and simply deceived the citizens of Georgia, — said one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” Giorgi Sioridze, at a briefing.
According to him, there is a way out of this situation, which “Lelo – Strong Georgia” has been talking about for months.
“Instead of the price reduction announced by Irakli Kobakhidze, everything is getting more expensive in Georgia. According to ‘Sakstat’ (Geostat), annual inflation in Georgia has reached 5.8%. More specifically, in June 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, bread has become 6.6% more expensive, oil 5.5%, meat 9.8%, fruit 8.7%, and fish products 20.4%.
It can now be boldly stated that the work of the Price Commission created in parliament, the investigation launched by the State Security Service, and Kobakhidze’s meetings with businesses for propaganda purposes have resulted in complete failure. The catastrophic rise in prices in Georgia is further impoverishing citizens. Ivanishvili’s regime has increased pensions by only 20%, while the salaries of high-ranking officials have increased by thousands of lari.
In addition, in the conditions of an isolated country, direct foreign investments are virtually not entering Georgia, and high-paying jobs are not being created. According to the latest data, 170,000 people in Georgia receive a salary of up to 1,200 GEL, while the average salary does not reflect the real picture, as it lags behind the median salary by hundreds of lari.
The price increase crisis continues in Georgia, and Irakli Kobakhidze, who boasts about high economic growth, average salary growth, and the defeat of poverty, has practically failed to reduce prices on a single product and has simply deceived the citizens of Georgia.
The only thing he managed to do with state funds was to create a website for already discounted products and have discounted goods arranged in one corner of supermarkets. However, there is a solution, and ‘Lelo – Strong Georgia’ has been talking about it for months.
First of all, this means reducing taxes. The excise tax on fuel in Georgia should be reduced and at least returned to the 2017 level, which ‘Georgian Dream’ doubled. Additionally, the value-added tax on basic food products should be reduced, as is good practice in many successful countries.
The long-term solution to this crisis is possible only and exclusively through the creation of an appropriate investment environment — by attracting direct foreign investments and creating high-paying jobs,” Giorgi Sioridze stated.
