Georgian citizens must definitely retain visa-free travel – the rest, what reactions there will be from national governments or Brussels, is written in the resolution and will be adopted finally, which everyone will read, — this was stated by the leader of “Strategy Builder,” Giorgi Vashadze, in Vienna, where he is attending the ALDE Congress.
According to him, it was important for them that Georgian citizens would not be harmed because of the destructive actions of “Georgian Dream.”
“Georgian citizens must definitely retain visa-free travel. The rest, what reactions there will be from national governments or Brussels, is written in the resolution and will be adopted finally, which everyone will read.
It was very important for us that Georgian citizens would not be harmed because of the destructive actions of “Georgian Dream.”
Last year, me and Zura [Zurab Japaridze], together with Elene [Elene Khoshtaria], who is still in prison, sent messages from prison, and everyone meets us and congratulates us on our release, but everyone also knows that we are still threatened with detention.
There is a serious struggle ahead in order to win,” Giorgi Vashadze stated.
For information: According to the draft resolution, while the wider region is reducing Russia’s influence, the ruling party of Georgia has turned its governance into Russia’s last stronghold and satellite in Eastern Europe.
The draft resolution states that ALDE recognizes the unwavering loyalty of the Georgian people to their desire to become a member of the European Union.
The draft resolution expresses concern about the series of arrests carried out in the recent period, which are directed against both politicians and participants in rallies. In this context, the resolution mentions, among others, the doctor Giorgi Chakhunashvili, as well as the leader of “Droa,” Elene Khoshtaria, and the Secretary General of “Strategy Aghmashenebeli,” Paata Manjgaladze.
The ALDE draft resolution calls on EU leaders and European states to impose personal sanctions both on those responsible for the democratic regression in the country and for serious human rights violations, as well as on the enablers and financing networks of the “Ivanishvili regime.”
ALDE also recommends maintaining a clear distinction between the regime and the population of Georgia by not revoking visa-free travel for Georgian citizens.
