The Government of Georgia has decided to construct the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port using the world’s most widely applied “Landlord” model. Under this model, the state will remain the owner of the main maritime and port infrastructure and will itself ensure its development and management.

This was announced today by Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, during a briefing.

According to the Minister, this model will allow the state to develop the Anaklia Port not with a single partner, but through simultaneous cooperation with several states and companies.

“The Government of Georgia has decided to build the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port using the most widely proven ‘Landlord’ model in the world. Within this model, the state will remain the owner of the main maritime and port infrastructure and will ensure its development and management itself. The ‘Landlord’ model will give the state the opportunity to develop the Anaklia Port not with one, but with several states and companies simultaneously. This will create the best conditions for attracting cargo to the port and ensuring its maximum operational efficiency.

Alongside the creation of port infrastructure, the state will ensure the construction of the access road and railway to Anaklia, while international investors and private operators will carry out the investments needed for the arrangement of container and bulk cargo terminals. The Government of Georgia especially welcomes investments in the Anaklia Port from countries participating in the Middle Corridor - from China, Central Asian countries, and Azerbaijan.

The decision is based on the main goal of establishing the Anaklia Port as a center for attracting international interest, capital, and cargo flows, with the participation of partner countries and taking their interests into account. This most important decision taken by the Government of Georgia will further strengthen Georgia’s national interests, create new economic opportunities, and position our country as a key participant in the Middle Corridor project,” stated Mariam Kvrivishvili.
