The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged one person with premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances involving a foreign national. The information was released by the Press Service of the Prosecutor's Office.

According to the agency, the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that between June 3 and June 25, 2026, Azerbaijani citizen Emin Aliyev restricted Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Karimova’s ability to make independent life decisions; he forbade her from communicating with family members and people she wanted to contact, and denied her the right to leave the house and move freely.

“Due to the above, Fatima Karimova tried to leave the apartment rented by Emin Aliyev, which was their shared residence. However, she did not have the opportunity to do so independently of Emin Aliyev, as he unilaterally made decisions regarding her leaving the house, communicating with other people, and even issues related to her food. In this way, Emin Aliyev was unlawfully trying to assert his superiority as a man over Fatima Karimova. On June 25, 2026, at approximately 22:00 at night, in Tbilisi, in the Varketili district, at 45a Evgenia Maisuradze Street, Apartment N3, Emin Aliyev strangled Fatima Karimova motivated by intolerance toward equality between women and men.”

The accused has been charged in absentia under subparagraph “t” of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (murder due to intolerance of equality between women and men), which carries a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment. The Prosecutor's Office will petition the court within the legally established timeframe to apply pretrial detention as a measure of restraint against the accused, and a wanted notice will be issued for him.

The 20-year-old Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Kerimova (Karimova) was found dead in a rented apartment in Tbilisi on June 26. According to available information, the person charged with the murder is the cousin of the murdered girl.
