According to Tata Khvedeliani, a Member of Parliament from the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, the appointment of Giorgi Bakhuashvili — who comes from Bidzina Ivanishvili’s inner circle — as Deputy Head of the State Security Service “means that the head of the State Security Service, Gela Geladze, and his activities will be controlled.”
As Khvedeliani stated in the “PalitraNews” program “Day’s Newsroom,” these personnel changes serve specifically Bidzina Ivanishvili’s comfort and the prolongation of “Georgian Dream’s” power.
“The personnel movements that have taken place in the government in recent years do not serve the main purpose — the interests of our population. They serve the comfort of one specific person and the prolongation of ‘Georgian Dream’s’ power. Accordingly, this appointment has concrete goals. This move does not signal that security is important for our government. These appointments and people who have appeared from nowhere are placed in such key and crucially important positions — because the position of Deputy Head of the State Security Service is one of the most important. The person appointed to this post is someone selected by Ivanishvili based on personal trust and is, in fact, his appointee.
This personnel change means that the head of the State Security Service, Gela Geladze, and his activities will be controlled. Everything and everyone in the country is controlled, because Ivanishvili wants the entire system to be subordinated to him.
Today, no state institution in our country serves the people — they only serve the comfort of this one person. They serve the prolongation of ‘Georgian Dream’s’ power and its violent regime. This is not the first case. For years, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service were run by Vakhtang Gomelauri, a member of Ivanishvili’s security team. And as soon as he was no longer needed, how was he used? Vakhtang Gomelauri reinforced fabricated charges against former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and is a witness in that case.
As soon as Bidzina Ivanishvili no longer needs a high-ranking official, he immediately removes them from their position — as he did with Zviad Kharazishvili (nicknamed ‘Kharaba’), the head of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
What have they turned the law enforcement structures into today? They are in the hands of ordinary thugs,” Khvedeliani said.
Additionally, the opposition MP responded to Irakli Kirtskhalia, one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority, regarding the confrontation that took place in Parliament. According to Tata Khvedeliani, what happened in the legislative body is confirmation of systemic crime that has existed in the country for years at the hands of “Georgian Dream.”
“This is the face of ‘Georgian Dream’ today. This allows us to judge the current state of ‘Georgian Dream.’ It is also important to note that this specific violent attack, which they carried out against our faction on June 26, has two dimensions. The first is the legal dimension — this crime has a very long statute of limitations of 30 years, and no one will remain unpunished. They should know this, and they do know it. This explains their panic. They committed a crime, and this crime could not remain hidden from the cameras. This is confirmation of the systemic crime that has existed in our country for years carried out by ‘Georgian Dream.’ Many more and much worse violent acts have been committed against our citizens, but unfortunately, they could not be recorded because they cowardly attack people in the streets of Georgia.
The second issue is that this attack was planned by their general coordinator, Mamuka Mdinaradze, who today in the government holds only one function — the function of coordinating violence. He planned this organized crime to cover up the shame of their Prime Minister in the Parliament of Georgia, who could not answer a single question. This crime was organized to cover up all of that. This case also has a political dimension, where we can cowardly and irresponsibly assess their violent actions,” Khvedeliani stated.
