"My son Giorgi Kvaratskhelia’s murder had protectors — high-ranking officials, Otar Partskhaladze and Partskhaladze’s ‘clan’," Inga Kvaratskhelia, the mother of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia, who was murdered in 2015, told journalists.
According to Kvaratskhelia’s mother, Davit Dekanosidze, who is accused along with Tornike Kacharava of her son’s murder, has been detained in Armenia, although in connection with another criminal case.
Inga Kvaratskhelia also said that the family expected the court to impose pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint for both Kacharava and Dekanosidze.
"According to reliable information from the family, he has been detained in Armenia, and we hope that law enforcement agencies will ensure his extradition in the near future. We expected the judge to approve the prosecution’s request, and we had no other expectation. What happened was what had to happen.
Tornike Kacharava has been charged several times, and his lawyers constantly repeat the same thing—that he was supposedly never guilty. What else would a lawyer say? [Kacharava’s lawyer] Ms. Irma knows Tornike Kacharava and his family quite well, so she would not say otherwise.
There was more than enough evidence in the case. My son Giorgi Kvaratskhelia’s murder had protectors, high-ranking officials. I have named them several times—Partskhaladze and Partskhaladze’s ‘clan’," Inga Kvaratskhelia said.
For reference, the Prosecutor’s Office has reopened the criminal investigation into the group murder of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia, which took place in 2015.
According to Tbilisi Prosecutor Giorgi Mikaia, charges will be filed against two individuals in connection with the case.
According to the agency, the investigation established that Davit Dekanosidze and Tornike Kacharava planned Kvaratskhelia’s murder due to a previous dispute. Investigators allege that on 25 December 2015, the accused arrived armed at an apartment building on Guram Panjikidze Street in Tbilisi, where they shot Giorgi Kvaratskhelia with a firearm. He died as a result of his injuries.
Charges were filed against Tornike Kacharava while he was in a penitentiary facility, while charges against Davit Dekanosidze were filed in absentia. A wanted notice will be issued for him. Both individuals are accused of premeditated murder committed by a group of persons.
