Traffic at the entrance to the town of Oni will be temporarily diverted to a specially constructed bypass road, according to the Roads Department of Georgia.

According to the agency, during the construction period, traffic to and from Oni will be routed via the Sachkhere (Sareki) – Uzunta – Shkmeri – Zudali road of domestic importance, as well as the Gufta – Oni local and domestic road.

The Roads Department said:

"According to the Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, in order to carry out restoration and protective works at the existing landslide site on the Kutaisi (Choma) – Alpana – Mamisoni Pass road, between kilometers 107 and 112, vehicle traffic along this section will be temporarily restricted from 11 July 2026. During this period, traffic at the entrance to Oni will be redirected to a specially constructed bypass road.

While the works are underway, traffic to and from Oni will be carried out via the domestic Sachkhere (Sareki) – Uzunta – Shkmeri – Zudali road, as well as the local and domestic Gufta – Oni road.

In addition, vehicles with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 8 tonnes will be prohibited from using the local road.

We remind the public that on 1 May of this year, landslide activity on the mountainside at the entrance to Oni damaged the roadway. Geologists, representatives of the design organization, and other relevant specialists were involved in assessing the situation and developing the appropriate technical solutions.

To ensure uninterrupted traffic, a temporary alternative road was constructed in parallel, and it has already been paved with asphalt. This will allow local residents and other road users to continue traveling without disruption while work is carried out on the main road.

Landslide stabilization and road restoration work at the entrance to Oni will continue intensively so that traffic can be restored as quickly as possible while fully complying with all safety requirements," the statement said.
