Police arrest Emin Aliyev, a cousin wanted for the murder of Fatima Karimova, at Batumi International Airport

Law enforcement officers have arrested Azerbaijani citizen Emin Aliyev, who allegedly choked his cousin Fatima Karimova, also an Azerbaijani citizen, in their shared apartment in Tbilisi.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the accused was arrested at Batumi International Airport.

“As a result of joint operational measures and investigative actions, officers of the Tbilisi Police and the Central Criminal Police Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained the person accused of the murder that occurred in Tbilisi. He was detained at Batumi International Airport.

The arrest of the accused was carried out in close coordination with Turkish and Azerbaijani colleagues, as well as with the direct involvement of the Georgian Police Attaché in Turkey.

On June 27 of this year, the accused inflicted life-threatening injuries on a relative in a temporary apartment in Tbilisi, who died on the spot as a result of the injuries inflicted.

As a result of operational measures and investigative actions conducted on the hotline, the police promptly identified the perpetrator and a search was launched for him.

The investigation is underway under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment," reads the information.
