Senior police official Ioseb Sigua, accused by his wife of physical violence and threats, resigns

Senior police official Ioseb Sigua, accused by his wife Sofia Sigua-Shatberava of physical violence and threats, has resigned.

Sigua held the position of Head of the Main Division for Combating Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was appointed to this position a few days ago.

Earlier, Sigua worked as Head of the Main Division of Detectives of the Tbilisi Police Department.

As for the allegations against the police official, his wife Sofia Sigua-Shatberava initially stated in “Nodar Meladze’s Shabbati” that Ioseb Sigua had threatened to kill her, throw her from the 12th floor, put her in a barrel, and bury her.

Shatberava told Interpressnews that Ioseb Sigua was fitted with an electronic bracelet by security guards yesterday. In addition, he has a restraining order and his right to carry weapons has been restricted.
