According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will continue, although the quality of cooperation will depend on the future activities of the Parliamentary Assembly itself.
Kobakhidze spoke about the above at the briefing held at the Government Administration.
“Cooperation will continue, but the quality of this cooperation will depend on how the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly itself continues its activities - will it remain at the Joe Wilson level or will it rise above the Joe Wilson level. This will be a matter of principle for the cooperation between the Georgian delegation and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Let's see how the processes continue. The quality of cooperation will depend on the further activities of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly itself,” Kobakhidze said.
For information, the Georgian delegation, as a sign of protest, refused to participate in the vote on the Hague Declaration at the plenary session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The relevant statement was made by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, before the vote. The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons, responded to Nikoloz Samkharadze’s remark and stated that leaving empty seats in the parliament is always the worst option, because democracy is, first and foremost, a joint attempt to resolve the conflict.
It is noteworthy that a few minutes after the Georgian delegation left the session, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the “Hague Declaration”, which includes a resolution on Georgia. The main sponsor of the resolution “Protecting the integrity of elections and fundamental freedoms in Georgia” is American Congressman Joe Wilson.
