Tazo Datunashvili: The EU stands where it always has - Alongside the Georgian people; it is Georgia's current government that does not stand with the people or defend their interests

Tazo Datunashvili, a member of the Strong Georgia - Lelo coalition, said the European Union remains firmly on the side of the Georgian people, commenting on remarks by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, who said the EU no longer maintains ties with or supports Georgia's current government, while continuing to support the Georgian people.

According to Datunashvili, EU member states continue to demonstrate their support for the Georgian people through their actions, statements, and resolutions.

"The EU High Representative is expressing what she believes is right. The fact that the European Union and our long-standing partners are friends of the Georgian people has not changed. They stand with the Georgian people and will continue to do so. This is reflected in every action taken by the European Union, by the capitals of EU member states, and in every statement and resolution they adopt.

Today, it is not Georgia's current government that stands with the Georgian people or defends their interests. The government divides Georgian citizens into two categories, restricting the rights of some to freedom of expression, assembly, and other fundamental freedoms, while another group is allowed to do virtually anything.

Georgia's current authorities have turned the government into a criminal syndicate serving Russian interests. The European Union stands where it has always stood - alongside the Georgian people. Georgia's current government does not," Datunashvili said.
