Prosecutor: The driver who hit a mother and child in Gori while driving under the influence had been issued more than 225 administrative fines

According to Prosecutor Shorena Mgaloblishvili, Revaz Elizbarashvili, who hit a mother and child in Gori while driving under the influence, had been issued more than 225 administrative fines.

Mgaloblishvili told TV Pirveli that the fines included penalties for speeding.

Revaz Elizbarashvili was remanded in custody as a preventive measure yesterday. He has been charged under Article 276, Part 9 of the Criminal Code — violating traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the deaths of two people — which carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.

The road accident that claimed the lives of a mother and child occurred on July 13 on Chavchavadze Street in central Gori. A Jeep-type vehicle hit a young woman and her three-year-old daughter while they were walking. Both the mother and child died in hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.
