Lasha Parulava: A single protocol letter from Donald Trump cannot and will not reset the damaged relations with the US caused by Ivanishvili’s repressive policy - the disappointment in Washington has not disappeared

\“A single protocol letter from Donald Trump cannot and will not reset the damaged relations with the United States caused by Ivanishvili’s repressive policy and anti-democratic steps,” Lasha Parulava, a member of the United National Movement, said while commenting on the letter sent by the US President to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

Parulava believes that the letter will have no impact unless the Georgian Dream takes appropriate steps.

“Clearly, the disappointment that exists in Washington has not disappeared. Resetting these relations first and foremost requires concrete steps, including the release of opponents and political prisoners and the creation of an electoral environment that will enjoy the full confidence of the international community. The Georgian Dream is not taking these steps; on the contrary, it is expanding repression. Therefore, I do not think this letter or the statements made by representatives of the Georgian Dream will produce any results,” Lasha Parulava said.

The US President, Donald Trump, sent Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze a letter thanking him for his congratulations on US Independence Day.

The Georgian Government Administration disseminated information about the letter.

In the letter, Trump wrote that Georgia and the United States can achieve significant progress by working together to support the sovereignty, security and long-term prosperity of both countries.
