Police arrest man accused of killing his father in Marneuli at Sarpi border crossing

Police arrested a man accused of killing his father in Marneuli at the Sarpi Border Crossing.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs disseminated information about the arrest.

“Officers of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained one person on charges of intentional murder of a family member committed under aggravating circumstances.

“The investigation established that, during a domestic dispute, the accused inflicted fatal wounds on his father using a bladed weapon and fled the scene.

“Law enforcement officers detained the accused several hours after the crime, at the Sarpi Border Crossing, as he was attempting to leave the country.

“The investigation is being conducted under Article 11¹⁰⁹ of the Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment,” the statement said.
