Giorgi Chighladze, who was detained in connection with an incident that occurred during a wedding at the Agarani Estate Hotel in Telavi, has officially been charged.

The investigative agency presented him with the indictment at the Gurjaani Temporary Detention Facility.

Chighladze was charged under Part 1 of Article 120 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the intentional infliction of minor bodily injury.

It was recently reported that the Prosecutor’s Office would ask the court to impose GEL 5,000 bail on Chighladze as a preventive measure.

The Telavi District Court is expected to consider Chighladze’s preventive measure on July 21.

For reference, the incident occurred on July 18 at a hotel located in the village of Ruispiri, Telavi Municipality.

A verbal altercation between wedding guests and tourists staying at the hotel escalated into a physical confrontation.

Law enforcement officers detained Giorgi Chighladze in connection with the incident in Telavi. An investigation was launched against him under Article 120 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the intentional infliction of minor bodily injury. The offense carries a sentence of up to three years in prison.

According to the available information, during the wedding at a hotel in Telavi, foreign nationals staying at the hotel allegedly insulted people attending the wedding from the balcony of their hotel room and poured water on the equipment. Following this, the defendant physically assaulted a female foreign national. The injured woman was taken to a clinic to receive appropriate medical assistance.

Administrative proceedings have also been launched against singer Aleksandre Mrelashvili.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mrelashvili was being questioned as a witness at a police station in connection with the incident at the wedding. During the questioning, he refused to remain at the station for an extended period. He subsequently verbally insulted police officers and damaged a locker used for storing belongings.
