Kakha Kaladze - For some people, every heavy rain is a reason for speculation - this does not happen only in Tbilisi, we see this in large European cities as well, when a large amount of precipitation falls in a short period of time - there is nothing alarming

When an unusually large amount of precipitation falls in a very short period of time, similar cases do not happen only in Tbilisi, we see this in many large European cities, in countries more powerful than ours, - Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated this at today's session of the capital's government.

He spoke about the heavy precipitation that has fallen in Tbilisi and explained that during the rehabilitation of roads, the City Hall primarily arranges drainage systems and underground communications.

In addition, according to Kaladze, some people use every heavy rain for political speculation.

"Yesterday's heavy rainfall caused problems in certain areas of the capital, on specific streets. Cleaning work was underway on specific streets and avenues throughout the night, and this is still ongoing, so that the streets are tidy and clean. When an unusually large amount of precipitation falls in a very short time, similar cases do not only occur in Tbilisi, we see this in many large cities in Europe, in countries stronger than ours, in economically stronger capitals, where there is modern infrastructure and everything is in order, however, the abundant precipitation that has fallen in a certain period of time poses a problem for the relevant infrastructure. This does not mean that the problem does not exist in Tbilisi or that we should not work on solving it, on the contrary, that is why, since 2017, when we start work in terms of road infrastructure, the first thing we do is renew underground communications, arrange drainage systems, etc. We remember that in previous years, roads were built superficially. The first thing we do during the rehabilitation of all important streets and avenues is to arrange and renew the infrastructure below the ground. Unfortunately, for years, practically nothing was done in this direction, and today we have to solve the problems that have accumulated over the years, although nothing is alarming. Gradually, everything will be arranged and resolved. Unfortunately, for some people, every heavy rain is a reason for political speculation. Our task is not really to argue, our task is to solve problems in a timely manner and create such infrastructure that will make the city even more sustainable in the future,” Kaladze said.
