“Ioseb Sigua did not have the mobile phone when an incoming call was registered on Sopio Sigua’s phone. The phone was in my possession, and I accidentally pressed the call button. I then informed Ioseb Sigua, followed by law enforcement and Sopio Sigua’s lawyer,” Teona Gvazava, the lawyer for former senior police official Ioseb Sigua, told Interpressnews, responding to information released by Ioseb Sigua’s former wife, Sopio Sigua-Shatberava.

According to Teona Gvazava, when the incoming call was registered on Sopio Sigua-Shatberava’s phone, the phone was in her possession and she was reviewing messages in order to obtain evidence. She said that she subsequently informed law enforcement and then Sopio Sigua-Shatberava’s lawyer, Tamar Lukava, about what had happened.

“On July 23, another hearing was held as part of the administrative case, during which Sopio Sigua unexpectedly made a statement about information that was not reflected in the evidence. The correspondence between Ioseb and Sopio Sigua contained circumstances contradicting the information she had announced. Accordingly, after the hearing ended, with Ioseb Sigua’s consent, I was reviewing the correspondence on his mobile phone and collecting evidence when I accidentally pressed the call button. I immediately ended the outgoing call.

“I informed the public order officer that an outgoing call had accidentally been made while I was collecting evidence. I then contacted Ms. Tamar Lukava, the lawyer for Sopio Sigua-Shatberava. As it was late, she did not answer her mobile phone, so I left her a written message explaining why an incoming call had been registered on Sopio Sigua’s phone.

“Ioseb Sigua did not have the mobile phone when an incoming call was registered on Sopio Sigua’s phone. The phone was in my possession, and I accidentally pressed the call button. I then informed Ioseb Sigua, followed by law enforcement and Sopio Sigua’s lawyer,” Teona Gvazava said.

For reference, Sopio Sigua-Shatberava, the former wife of former senior police official and former head of the Main Division for Combating Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ioseb Sigua, said that Ioseb Sigua called her late yesterday, thereby violating the terms of a restraining order, and is demanding his arrest as a result.

Speaking to Interpressnews, Sopio Sigua-Shatberava said that Ioseb Sigua’s lawyer, Teona Gvazava, explained that she had been browsing the WhatsApp application when the call was accidentally made. However, Sopio Sigua-Shatberava called this illogical, saying that during the court hearing held on July 23, Ioseb Sigua and his lawyer had presented the judge with “200 pages of screenshots” of their WhatsApp correspondence.

It should be recalled that Sopio Sigua-Shatberava said on “Nodar Meladze’s Saturday” that Ioseb Sigua had threatened to kill her, throw her from the 12th floor, put her in a barrel and bury her. Following the information released by Sopio Sigua-Shatberava, the former senior police official was fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet, and a restraining order was also issued against him.
