Roman Gotsiridze - Crypto companies are vampires and are a burden to the energy system, which results in frequent accidents - crypto mining in free industrial zones should be banned immediately

Opposition politician Roman Gotsiridze is demanding an immediate ban on crypto mining in free industrial zones.

According to the former president of the National Bank, “crypto companies” are destroying the country’s energy system, enjoying undeserved tax and energy benefits, and in reality, they serve the interests of the ruling party’s business clan.

According to Gotsiridze, crypto mining enterprises in Georgia consume approximately 6% of the country's electricity, which exceeds the annual consumption of Batumi.

According to the former MP, Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream business clan are behind the "parasitic crypto factories", which is why this sector needs to be banned immediately.

“Energy is being destroyed by parasitic crypto-enterprises, whose share in the country’s income is almost zero, and their impact on the economy is sharply negative.

No matter how energy-intensive any industry is, it has the right to exist if it operates in a competitive environment and makes a profit. Crypto-mining enterprises exist in Georgia precisely because they enjoy greenhouse conditions: they are completely exempt from taxes, and they receive electricity on preferential terms. Without these benefits, everyone would cease to exist at any moment. They are vampires that suck the blood of energy and the country’s budget and feed on it.

Another feature of these enterprises is that they work continuously day and night, winter and summer, creating a load on the energy system. The result of this is frequent accidents. In Georgia, they consume about 6% of the country’s electricity percent, and considering the consumption of Abkhazia, this figure increases even more. The total consumption reaches about 1 billion kilowatt-hours, which is more than the annual electricity consumption of Batumi.

Behind all crypto facilities are representatives of the Georgian Dream business clan, and the main crypto vampire, the Gldani enterprise, was founded by Ivanishvili.

Crypto mining in free industrial zones should be banned immediately,” Gotsiridze writes.
