The Director of Enguri HPP, Levan Mebonia, states that the large-scale power outage was caused by the shutdown of the 500-kilowatt line of Imereti.

The main load - Enguri is connected to the energy system up to Zestaponi. A very large load was passing through - when it was turned off, the regime was violated and the entire energy system collapsed. We are in the process of eliminating the problem,” he noted in a telephone comment to TV Pirveli.
According to the Georgian State Electrosystem, electricity supply was fully restored throughout the country by 10:15 a.m. The emergency power outage occurred at approximately 8 a.m. The cause of the outage is currently being determined, according to the State Electrosystem. A similar incident occurred on July 24, when power was cut off across Georgia.
