The rehabilitation project of Rustaveli Avenue, which should last for ten years, is actively underway, - Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at today's session of the municipal government.

According to him, at this time, the asphalt paving works have been completely completed.

"Large-scale rehabilitation works of Rustaveli Avenue began on July 23, due to which vehicle traffic has been completely restricted. From the very next day, the company "Georgian Water and Power" entered the site, which began a full-scale renovation of the outdated water supply and sewage networks. This will significantly improve the engineering infrastructure of the avenue in the future,” said Kakha Kaladze.

According to the Tbilisi Mayor, the installation of underground cable channels has also begun on the sidewalk, where electrical wires will later be placed.

“The contractor company is actively dismantling the railings, curbs and other infrastructure elements on the sidewalk in order to arrange spaces that meet modern standards in the next stage. Also, preparatory work for the rehabilitation of underground passages is underway intensively,” Kakha Kaladze noted.

According to him, the relevant groups are working on the site 24 hours a day.

"It is noteworthy that all work is being carried out simultaneously in several directions, which significantly speeds up the pace of project implementation. Collected material is being removed from the site at night, as well as new construction material is being brought in, so that the movement of large vehicles is limited during the day. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. It is impossible to carry out such work otherwise," said Kakha Kaladze.
