According to the Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, an agreement has been signed on the purchase of the Duchenne muscular dystrophy medicine Givinostat.

According to him, Georgia will be one of the first countries in the world to purchase this medicine and include it in the state program for disease management.

"Regarding the Duchenne muscular dystrophy medicine, I would like to inform you that today negotiations with an Italian company were successfully completed, and an agreement was signed on the purchase of Givinostat.

This medicine is intended for Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients from the age of 6 until they maintain their ability to move. Georgia will be one of the first countries in the world to purchase this medicine and include it in the state program for disease management," the minister noted.

In addition, the minister added that negotiations continue in parallel on the import of another medicine for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

"As for the second medicine, which was discussed earlier, I would like to note that negotiations are still ongoing in several directions and we hope to successfully conclude it in the near future, regarding which we will share information with the population," Sarjveladze noted.
