We worked with countries that can influence Nauru and conduct a dialogue with it, and the result of this is this - there are three countries left and the Foreign Ministry will continue to work with those countries that can sort out relations with these three countries in a way that takes Georgia's interests into account, - with this statement, the MP of the Georgian Dream faction Tengiz Sharmanashvili responded to the withdrawal of the recognition of the so-called independence of occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali by Nauru.

“Some dilettantes said: - Our partners provided this and the Georgian Foreign Ministry has nothing to do with it. You have to be a very amateur to think like this and imagine foreign relations like this.

Of course, if Georgia had the opportunity to directly influence Nauru, it would have done it 16 years ago. What would we do, threaten Nauru with an aircraft carrier?! The right direction was to work on whoever could influence it, and this is the result of working on them. We worked with those countries that can influence Nauru and have a dialogue with them. This is the result of that. The dilettantes think that diplomatic relations only mean that some Georgian diplomat should go to Nauru and work there. Of course, this would not have had any effect," Sharmanashvili said.

Sharmanashvili also spoke about the prospects for Georgian-American relations and, as he noted, the Georgian government is open to relations with the United States, discussing all issues with it and balancing mutual interests.

Sharmanashvili expressed hope that the acting US ambassador will contribute to the restoration and strengthening of US-Georgian relations.

"We understand very well that we are dealing with a fundamentally large country, but it is not about imposing our thoughts on it, but rather about making our major partner understand at least the minimum standards that are relevant to our survival - namely, how we see Georgia physically surviving and our identity not being undermined. We have the same idea on all these issues, which they loudly declare - they say that they support sovereignty and that invented values ​​are unacceptable to them. We are ready to cooperate within this framework. I am sure that this will yield some result. If the Americans did not believe this, they would not have sent working groups here or taken other steps," said Tengiz Sharmanashvili.
