National security is the foundation on which the sovereignty of the state, peace, and opportunities for development rest, — this is what the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, stated in his speech at the solemn event dedicated to the 11th anniversary of the State Security Service.

According to Mikheil Kavelashvili, in the modern world national security is a much broader concept than ever before and, in addition to traditional challenges, includes the fight against hybrid threats, information warfare, cyberattacks, and psychological pressure, whose goal is the division of society and the weakening of the state.

In his speech, Mikheil Kavelashvili noted that under such conditions particular importance is attached to the effective work of the State Security Service, because the protection of the country’s security is directly linked to the strengthening of constitutional order, internal stability, and public trust.

The President focused attention on the role of the State Security Service in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and corruption, as well as in the direction of preventing attempts at destabilization of the country and coups d’état.

At the end of his speech, the President of Georgia paid tribute to the memory of those employees who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country’s peace and security, and thanked the employees of the State Security Service for their professionalism and dedication shown in the service of the country.

Speeches were also delivered by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.
