Prosecutor's Office charges three individuals, including Nika Melia's companions, with violence during pre-election campaign in Samtredia in 2024

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged three individuals with violence committed during an election campaign event in Samtredia on August 11, 2024.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on August 11, 2024, during the opening of the Samtredia regional office of the political party "Akhali", Sulkhan-Saba Nikoleishvili hit Nikanor Melia in the head, as a result of which the latter suffered physical pain. During the incident, Nikanor Melia's companions - Gabriel Kobaidze and Tsotne Mirtskhulava - assaulted Sulkhan-Saba Nikoleishvili in response, as a result of which the latter suffered pain and received minor injuries.

"Law enforcement officers charged the defendants under Part 1 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violence during an election campaign event), which provides for a fine or up to 2 years of imprisonment as the form and extent of punishment.

The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law for the application of a preventive measure," reads the information.
