As part of the RMG’s student support project – Summer School, international students will, for the first time, join Georgian students for a one-month internship at the company’s enterprises.

Initiated and supported by RMG, the Summer School has been providing students with opportunities to gain practical experience and develop their professional skills for eight consecutive years. The project is implemented in partnership with Georgian Technical University and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and is being held in an international format for the first time this year.

More than 30 students are participating in the 2026 Summer School. Georgian students have been joined by participants from Germany, Croatia and Egypt, who are currently staying in Georgia as part of the European International Master’s Programme – TIMREX (T-Shaped Master Programme for Innovative Mineral Resource Exploration).

TIMREX is an international master’s programme focused on innovative approaches to mineral resource exploration. It brings together leading European universities, including the University of Miskolc (Hungary), the University of Zagreb (Croatia), Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Poland), and Luleå University of Technology (Sweden). The programme enables students to complete different stages of their studies at partner universities and industrial organisations.

The Faculty of Mining, Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development at Georgian Technical University is a partner institution of TIMREX. This international partnership, combined with RMG’s long-standing cooperation with the university, has made it possible to include TIMREX students in the Summer School.

Participants have been assigned to different areas based on their professional interests and specialisations. Over the course of one month, they will gain practical experience in geology, resource geology, geotechnics, surveying, underground mining, ore beneficiation, and chemical technologies.

The training will be led by highly qualified RMG specialists. Students will gain first-hand experience of the full cycle of modern mining and mineral processing operations in a real industrial environment.

“For eight years, RMG’s Summer School has successfully brought together education, science and industry, giving students the opportunity to develop professionally in a real industrial environment. The involvement of international participants has added a new educational and cultural dimension to the project. Georgian and international students are sharing academic experiences, learning about different countries’ education systems and exploring opportunities for academic mobility. This multicultural environment will help them build professional connections and lay the foundation for future international cooperation,” said Giorgi Khetsuriani, RMG’s Educational and International Academic Projects Manager.

The international expansion of the project will continue in the coming years. Starting in 2027, students from Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria are also expected to join the Summer School. This will further expand the international scope of the project and contribute to strengthening international connections in Georgia’s mining and geological education, as well as professional cooperation.

Following the one-month internship, a concluding event will be held, where students will deliver group presentations and share the knowledge and experience they have gained during the programme.
