Gia Baramidze's shameful statement was directed to the detriment of the country, - Giorgi Jincharadze, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, told journalists.
According to Jincharadze, he has information that "he was offered that it was possible not to air the said story, although the dissemination of these treasonous statements was done at his own will".
“This is our and not only our insult - first of all, an insult to those people whose names are engraved on this plaque today [Memorial to Heroes Who Died for the Territorial Integrity of Georgia]. When a person makes such a statement, it is impossible to love the country and think about the country,” said Giorgi Jincharadze.
The case concerns an interview given to Iago Khvichia by Giorgi Baramidze, one of the leaders of the National Movement, in which he notes that during the war in Abkhazia “we did not have prisoners, our people did not take prisoners, our people shoot them.” Later, Baramidze explained that he had never said that “our people were ‘shooting’ those who were captured” and had never seen such a thing.
In response to Baramidze’s statements, the Prosecutor General’s Office launched an investigation into the fact of treason and sabotage.
