The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged one person with violating traffic safety rules on the Gomi mountain road in Ozurgeti municipality, which resulted in the deaths of four people.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs found that on August 12, while driving on the 16th kilometer of the Gomi mountain road in Ozurgeti municipality, the driver of the minibus, who did not have the driver's license of appropriate category to transport such a large number of passengers and was nevertheless transporting foreign tourists, failed to ensure safe driving of the vehicle, fell into a ravine and crashed into a tree. As a result, 4 passengers of the car died, and 16 passengers of the minibus received multiple injuries.

“Law enforcement officers detained the driver of the car. The detainee was charged under Article 276, Part 8 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violation of the traffic safety rules by the person driving the vehicle, which resulted in the death of more than two people), which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The mountain has already applied to the court with a motion to impose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure against the accused,” reads the information.
