Tengiz Sharmanashvili: Whether Georgia will take steps related to international politics is determined by only one criterion: whether it is in Georgia’s interests

Turkey and Serbia are also European Union candidate countries, but they did not join the sanctions imposed against Iran. Let everyone know that whether Georgia will take steps related to international politics is determined by only one criterion: whether it is in Georgia’s interests, – Georgian Dream MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili stated, responding to the question of why Georgia did not join the sanctions adopted by the European Union against Iran.

According to him, the Georgian side will not take any step that goes against Georgia’s interests.

“Turkey and Serbia are also European Union candidate countries, but they did not join. Whether Georgia will join any resolution or take steps related to international politics is determined by only one criterion – whether it is in Georgia’s interests at that moment or not. If it contradicts Georgia’s interests, we do not care at all whose interests it serves afterwards. This is the difference between us and those rootless people who first think about others’ interests and only then about the interests of their own country. Our test is as follows – whatever step is to be taken, first of all it must pass the test of whether it is in our interests or not. If we consider that it is not, we will not take it. Let everyone know this!” – Sharmanashvili stated.
