"It is necessary for the agent-linked opposition parties, wealthy NGOs, and your far-left, pseudo-liberal activists to apologize to the absolute majority of our society for the insults, hatred, aggression, bullying, and labeling them as Russian that you subjected them to as part of the ‘Russian Law’ campaign. After apologizing, it is also necessary for you to finally withdraw from Georgian politics!" - Levan Machavariani wrote on social media.
As he notes in his social media post, ‘the agent-linked opposition, wealthy NGOs, and their far-left, pseudo-liberal activists spread numerous lies and false perceptions through social media.’
‘When we speak about the need to reduce polarization, it is very important to translate these words into concrete steps. We have often witnessed attacks on the overwhelming majority of society by the agent-linked opposition, wealthy NGOs affiliated with them, and their far-left, pseudo-liberal activists, which, in itself, has further increased the level of polarization in our country.
These actors have repeatedly spread narratives based on lies at the direction of external forces and attempted to create perceptions as though black were white. The absolute majority of the population did not accept this, and as a result, they immediately became victims of a well-organized campaign of shaming, hatred, bullying, and insults. A vivid example of this is the Georgian Law on Transparency.
Solely to prevent the funding sources of Nino Lomjaria, Eka Gigauri, Baia Pataraia, and the collective “Sorosists” from becoming public, under the leadership of Kelly Degnan, every single party of the agent-linked opposition and their far-left, pseudo-liberal activists conducted the “fraudulent” campaign called the “Russian Law” with tremendous energy, relentless aggression, and extreme hatred.
This unrestrained campaign did indeed mislead part of society, while those whom they could not deceive and who “dared” to ask why making NGO finances public was supposedly Russian received the answer “because,” along with numerous insults. Using the most fascistic methods, citizens were prevented from reading the law and examining its contents.
Many people went to the demonstrations merely to take a “selfie,” so that by posting a photo from Rustaveli Avenue they could avoid being immediately labeled a “Russian stooge,” humiliated, and insulted. I am sure that many of you, while reading this post, will remember this psychological terror you personally experienced.
The agent-linked opposition, wealthy NGOs, and their far-left, pseudo-liberal activists spread numerous lies and false perceptions through social media. In order not to be left without “black money,” they tried by every means to “blackmail” society.
I will address several of the “cards” most frequently circulated on social media, to remind you of the scale of the absurdity of this campaign. They claimed that if the law were adopted: we would wake up in “Chelyabinsk”; opposition media outlets would be banned; NGOs would be banned; Georgians living abroad would no longer be able to send money to their families; students would no longer be able to receive funding; farmers would be prohibited from receiving grants; and how could we possibly question funding from USAID and NED?!
Two years have passed: we did not wake up in “Chelyabinsk”; opposition media outlets were not banned; NGOs were not banned; emigrants did not face problems transferring money; students did not face problems receiving funding to study abroad; farmers receive grants and continue working their land.
As for USAID and NED, the current U.S. administration declared both organizations criminal, established with evidence that they had been funding unhealthy processes, chaos, and revolutions not only in Georgia but in many countries around the world, and shut down both organizations.
In short, over these two years, it was not proven that black was white. What was proven, however, is that agent-linked opposition parties and their far-left, pseudo-liberal activists are ready to trample on you, humiliate you, and psychologically destroy you if you refuse to blindly believe, without thought or analysis, the fairy tale they have invented.
Now, let us return to where I started. Talking alone will not reduce polarization. Concrete steps are necessary.
It is necessary for the agent-linked opposition parties, wealthy NGOs, and your far-left, pseudo-liberal activists to apologize to the absolute majority of our society for the insults, hatred, aggression, bullying, and labeling them as Russian that you subjected them to as part of the “Russian Law” campaign. After apologizing, it is also necessary for you to finally withdraw from Georgian politics!
I believe that we are obliged to remind society of similar stories from recent years so that we Georgians remain vigilant and never again allow agents and far-left, pseudo-liberals to keep our citizens under psychological terror", Levan Machavariani wrote.
