“When a person has admitted to a corruption offense, as happened at the beginning of 2026, what are we even talking about when it comes to safeguarding a return to politics?! This is devoid of reason, and there is no basic logic to it! The person has moved on to damaging an already damaged reputation even further,” Georgian Dream MP Archil Gorduladze told journalists, commenting on a letter written by imprisoned former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

In response to a question, Gorduladze emphasized that at the beginning of this year, Garibashvili himself admitted to a corruption offense, was held responsible as a result of that admission, and “it is unimaginable how a person exposed for corruption could return to politics.”

According to Gorduladze, when a person now claims that they did not commit a crime and only confessed in order not to harm the team, but then goes on to make statements against that same team, “this once again highlights that he is detached from logic and has moved on to damaging his already damaged reputation even further.”

“He has entered a mode of self-destruction. I do not know why he is doing this. The public knows that at the beginning of this year, he himself admitted to a corruption offense, acknowledging that he had illegally obtained funds that he had not declared and from which he personally benefited. As a result of this admitted offense, he is also serving the appropriate punishment.

“That is why it is difficult to understand why he felt the need to distribute two letters that contradict each other. At one point he talks about the founder of our party, then he talked about Mamuka Mdinaradze — he himself could not even figure out who had sent which letter to whom. What is this letter supposed to be in the first place? Could it, for example, resemble Khazaradze’s letter, which had its own backstory, and the public knows very well how that story continued?

“I do not know how anyone can talk about a return to politics when a person has himself admitted to a corruption offense. After that, he says that he received some kind of letter and is supposed to admit to another corruption offense in order to safeguard his return to politics. When a person has admitted to a corruption offense, as happened at the beginning of 2026, what are we talking about when it comes to safeguarding a return to politics?! This is devoid of reason; there is no basic logic to it. The person has moved on to damaging his already damaged reputation even further,” Archil Gorduladze said.
