The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, has invited the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, to the first international summit on space issues, which will be held in Paris on 9-10 September. This information is released by the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

According to them, as the President of France notes, the co-chairs of the event will be France and Germany. The main themes of the summit are science, research, and security and defence issues.

“Mr. Prime Minister, dear Irakli, I have the honour to invite you to the first international summit dedicated to space issues, which will be held in Paris on 9-10 September. Today, more than ever, space represents a most important vector of power and prosperity. The dynamism of industrial actors, the increased dual civil and military purpose of this field, and intensified competition require coordinated action in order to fully realise its technological potential and to accelerate the sustainable and responsible development of the space economy. The summit will create an opportunity to emphasise the importance of dialogue and cooperation not only between states, but also between companies and multilateral actors. It is our duty, already from today, to ensure the sustainability of space activity for the benefit of our common prosperity and future generations: this summit precisely provides the means to strengthen this ambition. In addition, we will be given the opportunity to present the expertise of our space industries and agencies, as well as the high standard of our cooperation at the scientific, industrial, technical and economic levels. It is particularly important for us, together with you and the other invited countries, to define the format of the summit so that the event concludes with firm statements and concrete steps. Our goal is to turn the mentioned meeting into an outstanding opportunity to confirm the importance of space challenges and to support the multilateral cooperation in space that is needed today more than ever.
