“We expected to hear something extraordinary from Garibashvili, but there was nothing new except that he is trying to prove to Bidzina Ivanishvili that he is loyal to him and the best servant among the servants,” Giorgi Sharashidze, one of the leaders of Gakharia for Georgia, said, commenting on another letter by former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who is currently in custody.
According to him, instead of using the information at his disposal to help change the political processes in the country for the better, the only thing the former prime minister is doing is defending himself and trying to prove to Bidzina Ivanishvili that he is “a much better servant than Kobakhidze and Mdinaradze.”
“This is a continuation of the confrontation between clans. We saw how the Kobakhidze-Mdinaradze clan gained the upper hand over the Garibashvili-Liluashvili clan. We have no doubt that Garibashvili is corrupt, and we have spoken about this many times, but the Georgian Dream itself is corrupt, and it is Georgian Dream that bears responsibility for the existence of systemic political corruption in Georgia.
“Kobakhidze has no moral right to talk about fighting corruption as long as Kakha Kaladze, who is under his protection and a member of his clan, remains in his ranks, given that the majority of Georgia’s population has the most questions about Kaladze in relation to corruption. Why is Kobakhidze not interested in Kaladze’s wealth and alleged corrupt deals? Does he not have the information, or does he have no questions? This is not a fight against corruption; it is a struggle over the redistribution of corrupt interests, power, and access to financial resources. This is a confrontation between clans. At the ‘king’s court,’ one clan was replaced by another, and clan-based rule continues to this day.
“The entire Georgian Dream is corrupt and involved in corruption. Numerous corrupt officials continue to dip their hands into the pockets of the people and, by doing so, betray our country. Corruption is treason,” Giorgi Sharashidze said.
For information, former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili wrote on social media that the ruling party had set up a “dirty provocation” against him.
“You set up a dirty provocation against me from the very beginning, laid an unmanly trap for me. I trusted your word, followed you honestly and with blind trust, but you deceived and betrayed me, sacrificed me, barged into my home like robbers and criminals, terrorized my family, my wife and children, and raided the homes of my mother and father, my father-in-law and mother-in-law...
“You sent me to prison for five years because of false perceptions, imaginations, envy, fears and suspicions created by a specific group within the team. You sacrificed me and sent me to prison for absolutely no reason. Now you do not even leave me alone in prison; you have come after me with this letter and are demanding that I admit to a corruption charge in order to insure yourselves against even the one-percent risk you have identified, so that I permanently withdraw from politics.
“All of this was accompanied by immoral blackmail and pressure - for the second time, you hinted at the possibility of arresting my 75-year-old father. You touched such layers of my heart and soul that, literally speaking, you ‘blew me up’ and left me with no other choice...
“I am not fighting anyone; I am only defending myself and my family. Therefore, I will be forced to respond in kind to every step you take,” Irakli Garibashvili wrote.
