“I think I deserve some time to rest and take care of my family and myself. One of my children is 9 and the other is 13, and they have practically grown up without me. I also want to preserve some human moments in my life,” Regional Development Minister Mamuka Mdinaradze said, explaining his decision to leave politics.

Asked what had happened that led him to make the decision, Mdinaradze replied: “Nothing like that happened. Nothing in particular happened.”

“For 10 years, when you are fully engaged in politics and the degree and intensity of your involvement, as well as your level of responsibility, are correspondingly high, it is not easy. To be honest, it is not an easy undertaking. And another thing - if I thought today that no one in the country could handle the regional development portfolio better than me, I would not step aside and leave either politics or my position.

“But I genuinely believe that there are many leaders within the team who can handle this area very well. Therefore, I also considered whether my presence was truly essential, and this was another factor that made me start thinking about leaving. I think I deserve some time to rest and take care of my family and myself. One of my children is 9 and the other is 13, and they have practically grown up without me. I also want to preserve some human moments in my life,” Mdinaradze said.

The former Regional Development Minister also noted that he does not intend to return to politics.

“If the team really needs me and there is no other solution, I will return only in that case,” Mdinaradze said.
