“It was completely clear that within several months of his appointment, Mdinaradze would share Okanashvili’s fate. However, today he looks more like someone who has been put on the tracks leading toward Liluashvili’s fate than someone following Okanashvili’s path,” Berdia Sichinava, Executive Secretary of “Gakharia for Georgia,” said following Regional Development Minister Mamuka Mdinaradze’s decision to leave politics.

According to Sichinava, political and legal responsibility for the damage inflicted on the state will be unavoidable for Mdinaradze.

“Mdinaradze never had any political renown or any significant public rating, just as is the case with Kobakhidze. The reason is simple: he never had either the real ability or the necessary political resources to make independent political decisions. He was merely one of the service personnel of a system operating in Ivanishvili’s interests, who over time came to believe that he himself represented an independent political figure.

“It was precisely this illusion that determined his current situation as well. He was thrown out in a humiliating manner — from nowhere, back to nowhere. Exactly the same fate awaits those around him as well,” Berdia Sichinava said.

For reference, Mamuka Mdinaradze, who most recently served as Regional Development Minister, announced at an emergency briefing held at the Government Administration that he was resigning from his position and leaving politics. According to Mdinaradze, his 10 years in politics had been 10 years of hard work, devotion to his homeland and working with friends to accomplish great things for the country. He also said that he had been considering leaving politics for the past several weeks.

Mdinaradze also said that he may try his hand at another field, including business. Asked about a possible return to politics, he said that this could happen only in a situation of extreme necessity.

“I think I deserve some time to rest and take care of my family. My children have practically grown up without me. If the team really needs me and there is no other solution, I will return only in that case,” Mdinaradze said.
