A Georgian citizen illegally detained in the occupied Tskhinvali region On March 18, 2026 is free and is in the territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service reports.

According to them, the central government of Georgia regularly raised the issue of the unconditional release of the Georgian citizen from illegal detention in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and the Geneva International Discussions.

According to the State Security Service, both the “hotline” mechanism and all other instruments available to the central government were intensively used.

“International partners were actively involved in the negotiations. The central government, together with international partners, continues to work actively to release all Georgian citizens illegally detained in the occupied territories,” reads the information.
