The Prosecutor’s Office releases video footage in the case of Tamaz Elizbarashvili

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has released footage in the case of Tamaz Elizbarashvili, who has been charged with making threats.

According to the agency, the footage shows the area near a restaurant on the night of August 31, where, according to the investigation, Tamaz Elizbarashvili returned armed following a conflict that had occurred earlier.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that at approximately 11:40 p.m. on August 30, Tamaz Elizbarashvili and one of the victims happened to meet at a restaurant in Tbilisi, where a verbal confrontation broke out between them over a comment Elizbarashvili had previously posted on social media concerning the individual and his family.

According to the investigation, during the verbal confrontation, Tamaz Elizbarashvili threatened the victim and the people accompanying him. In particular, he said that he would not leave the matter unresolved, would return in approximately 30 minutes, and that they should not leave the restaurant premises.

“Since the victims knew that Tamaz Elizbarashvili possessed a firearm that could potentially be used against them, they developed a reasonable fear for their lives and physical safety and decided to leave the restaurant.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., Tamaz Elizbarashvili returned to the scene with the intention of carrying out the threat. He demonstratively kept one hand inside his coat pocket, was armed, and attempted to enter the restaurant. He also continued threatening and verbally abusing the victims.

Some of the victims, who had not managed to leave the scene and were still in the vicinity of the restaurant, developed a reasonable fear that the threats would be carried out. Despite being prohibited from entering by security personnel, Tamaz Elizbarashvili nevertheless entered the restaurant premises. After making sure that the victims were no longer there, he left the area,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged Tamaz Elizbarashvili with making threats. He was charged under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
