“Such statements will not help him save himself. It is difficult to comment on all of this,” First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski said, commenting on the questioning being conducted in connection with the case of Lazare Jorbenadze.

“There is a person in prison who, until yesterday, headed the team I represent. I know his family and his circle. I remember the best periods of our relationship and his presence within the entire team. I cannot say that all of this is something he suddenly blurted out,” Volski said.

According to him, the plan is for Garibashvili to make a certain contribution to a broader revolutionary scenario through such statements, so that if a revolution subsequently takes place and succeeds, some form of leniency could be granted to him.

“In the Lazare Jorbenadze case, everyone pointed the finger at Irakli Garibashvili, saying that he made the statement and everyone followed him. This tragedy is not the only issue that has been incorporated into a propaganda plan. There is talk of other suicides; supposedly, a lawyer was kicked by five police officers, and the next day his cheek was injured, and so on.

An effort is being made to shape attitudes toward Georgia, including at the international level. In this context, Irakli Garibashvili’s statement, whether made thoughtlessly or as a result of being misled, fits into an overall scenario aimed at damaging the government and advancing the revolutionary process that we have spoken about repeatedly and of which we have witnessed numerous manifestations.

Or the second explanation is more simplistic - perhaps he thinks that he will have more resources and receive more attention under a political umbrella, and perhaps even get himself included on that so-called list of prisoners. There is no other explanation for this.

I want to be convinced - and I cannot imagine it otherwise - that Irakli Garibashvili is in a difficult situation and that perhaps someone has taken advantage of this and is trying to mislead him,” Gia Volski said.

For the record, Georgia’s former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili published another letter from prison in which he asked, “What was the real reason for the death of human rights defender Lazare Jorbenadze?” He said that society still has “unanswered questions regarding a number of suicides that took place during the rule of Kobakhidze and Mdinaradze.”

Yesterday, September 3, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement confirming Lazare Jorbenadze’s suicide. According to the agency, despite this, based on public statements made by convicted Irakli Garibashvili and other individuals, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, will question Nika Gvaramia, Irma Inashvili, Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Khatia Dekanoidze, Tazo Datunashvili, Gia Khukhashvili, Giorgi Liluashvili, Zaza Davitaia, Ermile Nemsadze and Giorgi Gigauri as part of the ongoing investigation.

Some of them were already questioned at the investigative agency yesterday. Today, at the Tbilisi City Court in the presence of a magistrate judge, Tazo Datunashvili, one of the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, and Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the United National Movement, were questioned.
