Traffic rules in areas adjacent to schools will be tightened - driving at a speed higher than 30 km/h will be prohibited in zones with special markings.

This is stated in the Action Plan of the National Road Safety Strategy for 2026-2030.

“In response to the existing challenges related to the safety of minors, work will begin on the relevant regulation of school zones in Georgia. In particular, defining the concept of a school zone in Georgian legislation, establishing the maximum speed limit for vehicles in these zones at 30 km/h, and reviewing the application of the current 15 km/h tolerance for speeding in school zones.

These legislative interventions will contribute to reducing the average speed of movement in school zones and will significantly increase the level of safety for minors. Also, before defining the concept of a school zone, the compliance of the existing infrastructure adjacent to all operating public schools in Georgia with the recommendations developed by the Interagency Commission on Road Safety will be assessed.

In the direction of road infrastructure, work will continue on the implementation of comprehensive infrastructure measures aimed at strengthening pedestrian safety in school zones and adjacent areas,” the National Road Safety Strategy for 2026-2030 notes.
