Former Prosecutor General of Georgia, Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze, explains why he decided to form a volunteer unit supporting Russia in the war against Ukraine.

As he stated in an interview with Russian media, he made the decision after being invited to the May 9 parade by Vladimir Putin. According to Partskhaladze, after the start of the so-called “special military operation”, he could not stand aside and decided to help Russian military personnel.

“After being invited to the Victory Parade on May 9, 2025 by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putin, I firmly decided to begin military service as part of the Volunteer Corps “Arbat”, where I served for nine months. "After completing my military service in Arbat, my comrades and I decided to create the international volunteer unit "Georgievskiy", - Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze told the Russian state-run TASS news agency.

According to him, "volunteers who value the common history and centuries-old brotherhood of Russia and Georgia will join the "Georgievskiy" unit."

"Their main motivation is to protect the Christian faith, traditional family, their own culture and identity from the madness and pressure that the West is forcing upon us today. For them, Russia is a pillar of normal and healthy human values, and they have firmly decided to defend this pillar with weapons in their hands," - Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze noted.

According to Romanov-Partskhaladze, the name of the unit is associated with the Treaty of Georgievsk, "which played a major role in the history of the Georgian people."
